RUANDA

IT'S TIME TO DISCOVER

RUANDA

Rwanda is a high-end tourist destination that stands out for its organisation, cleanliness, and strong commitment to sustainability (imagine, it’s one of the few countries in the world where plastic is banned!). Known as the “land of a thousand hills”, with its gentle, green landscapes, it’s perfect for those looking for a compact, relaxed itinerary for a short trip – on paved, quiet roads – and is ideal as a first introduction to the continent.

The country’s recent history, marked by the 1994 genocide, is part of its identity. To understand the strength of Rwanda’s development, there is nothing better than starting your journey by visiting the memorials and learning first-hand about their reconciliation process.

This small but vibrant country offers an unforgettable experience for those seeking connection with nature and culture. From coming face to face with mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, to the rainforest landscapes of Nyungwe, home to chimpanzees and endemic birds, Rwanda is a paradise for ecotourism.

In the eastern savannahs, Akagera National Park offers safaris to see the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — in little-visited landscapes that guarantee a unique and exclusive experience.

The tranquil waters of Lake Kivu invite you to relax among volcanoes and fishing villages, while Kigali, the capital, impresses with its modernity, cleanliness, and thriving cultural scene, a testament to a country looking to the future without forgetting its history.

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK SAFARI

Discover Rwanda’s wildest side in Akagera National Park, a vast area of savannahs, lakes, and wetlands where the classic essence of African safaris reigns.

Driving along its tracks in a 4×4 or cruising on Lake Ihema, you can spot the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino — as well as giraffes, antelopes, and over 480 bird species.

An experience that combines nature, adventure, and conservation, ideal for those dreaming of a complete safari in an uncrowded setting.

GORILLA TREKKING -VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Experience one of Africa’s most thrilling encounters: mountain gorilla trekking in the Virunga Volcanoes National Park.

Accompanied by local guides, you will walk through the jungle and mist until you reach a gorilla family, sharing with them a moment of deep connection and respect.

You can also track golden monkeys, climb craters such as Mount Bisoke, and visit the Karisoke Research Center, founded by Dian Fossey, the famous American primatologist and conservationist who dedicated her life to protecting mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

In addition to the research centre, you can also do the Dian Fossey tomb trek, which takes you through bamboo forests and mountain slopes to the site where she rests, next to the graves of the gorillas she studied. During the hike, the guides share her story, her work, and the great impact she had on mountain gorilla conservation.

A unique experience that leaves a lasting impression.

NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK

Venture into one of Africa’s oldest tropical forests: Nyungwe National Park.

Walk among lianas and ferns in search of chimpanzees, cross hanging bridges above the forest canopy on the famous Canopy Walkway, and listen to the songs of endemic birds hidden among orchids and mist.

Nyungwe is pure biodiversity, a magical place for ecotourism and nature photography lovers.

LAKE REGION: KIVU,BURERA AND RUHONDO

Rwanda’s Lakes Region offers breathtaking water landscapes, each with its own special atmosphere.

Lake Kivu, the largest, has a laid-back vibe with quiet beaches, swimmable waters free of hippos or crocodiles, and magnificent sunsets over the volcanoes – a perfect place to relax after trekking or to simply enjoy nature’s tranquillity.

Lakes Burera and Ruhondo, known as the Twin Lakes, offer picturesque views of terraced hillsides, fishing villages, and Nganzo Island, which is considered a sacred and spiritual place by the local community.

With kayaking or traditional canoe trips, island visits, and encounters with local communities, this area represents the perfect balance between nature and relaxation.

KIGALI

Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, is modern, safe, and surprisingly clean. Its commitment to sustainable development, such as banning plastic and promoting electric mobility, positions it as one of Africa’s greenest and most innovative cities.

But Kigali is also a place of memory and reflection. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a must-visit to understand the country’s recent history, honour the victims, and admire the resilience of its people.

The city also offers unique cultural experiences: markets like Kimironko, the colourful neighbourhoods of Nyamirambo, art galleries, traditional dance centres, and a thriving culinary scene.

It is the perfect starting point for any trip through Rwanda, combining history, modernity, and vibrant culture in a welcoming and lively setting.
