This is how Wildeast was born
A trip to Uganda we organized to show our lifelong friends the places we’ve called home for years made us realize this couldn’t remain just for us. Seeing their eyes light up—amazed by the meaningful encounters with local communities and the adrenaline of nature and wild animals—pushed us to create this beautiful project called WildEast.
WildEast is not just any trip: it’s a way to discover Uganda and Rwanda from the inside out. Beyond the usual tourist trails, meeting inspiring people and visiting social projects that are transforming generations.

OTTAVIA & JOSE
We are Ottavia and José, a couple with a deep passion for East Africa – its landscapes, its people, and its rich culture. We met in Congo while working in international development, and since then, we have shared not only our lives but also an idea: Africa deserves to be seen through different eyes, because it’s not just about wild animals and poverty; it’s about culture, complexity, creativity, and local stories that move you.
We live between Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda, where we explore, learn, and let ourselves be amazed every day, living between cities, national parks, and villages.
We realised that when we tell our friends and family about our daily lives, the Western narrative that portrays Africa as a “continent in need” is still the one that prevails.
That’s why we created WildEast, which is not a tour operator, but simply José and Ottavia designing unforgettable experiences that combine adventure and solidarity. We listen, suggest, and create authentic itineraries based on what we truly know, live, and have lived. With us, there are no fixed catalogues – only tailor-made journeys including encounters with social projects and people who are making a difference and transforming their communities.
Our network of local contacts and our passion for these lands, which we want to share exactly as we experience them, open up different perspectives. And because we do this out of passion (and not as our main job!), forget about inflated prices: just authentic experiences, designed with heart.
